Bodø Sinfonietta
In 1999, Bodø Sinfonietta held their début concert at the Rock Café in Bodø. Partly because it was a fitting stage, but more because it was the only venue willing to pay… Since the Bodø Sinfonietta was established in 1999 as an independent ensemble of musicians living in Bodø, this functioned as a reunion. An important event in the early stages was their participation in composer’s conferences at the Northern Cap. These were held at Bodø, Oulo, the Faroe Islands and Piteå, and exposed the ensemble to the Scandinavian scene. The aim was to establish an ensemble holding quality at their core.
Presently the ensemble is organizing a union with the Tromsø Symphonic Orchestra into a Northern Symphonic Orchestra, which will give the Bodø Sinfonietta the necessary positions to become an adequate ensemble of fourteen.
Through regular co-operation with composers on an international level, the Bodø Sinfonietta has developed into an ensemble of the highest standards, with flexible and enthusiastic musicians. The ensemble performed at the 2005 opening concert at the Nordic Music Festival at St. Petersburg, and paid a second visit in February 2009 during the festival Hermitage Music in the Winter Palace. They have also been touring Nordic cities such as Gothenburg and Reykjavik.
