Christian Eggen

Christian Eggen (b. 1957) started his career as piano player, but is today one of the most prolific conductors in Scandinavia. In 1988, he became conductor of the ensemble Cikada, a group that was awarded the Nordisk Råds Music Award in 2005. Since 1993 he has also been artistic leader of the group Oslo Sinfonietta.

Christian Eggen’s registry as composer is a broad one: On the one hand is the music from the film Ole Aleksander Filibom-bom-bom, on the other the music of the avant-garde opening of the Gardermoen airport. His productions comprise music for theatre and film, chamber and orchestral music, as well as electro-acoustic installations.

As a TV director, he won the award for best short film during The Norwegian Short Film Festival in 1987. He has received the Lindeman award, the Oslo City Artist award and the Music Critic award in 1999. In 2007 he was appointed commander of the St. Olav’s order.
