Ultima Festival is happening – in real life – in Oslo from 15–25 September.
The programme is crammed with more than 40 live concerts, performances, exhibitions, screenings, world premieres and talks, all taking place across 20 venues around Oslo.
Ever since the pandemic turned the world upside down in March 2020, we – like all other arts organisations – have been forced to completely rethink our notion of a festival. We have made and rejected plans, reorganised, renewed and adjusted the festival programme as the situation has developed, in the face of unpredictable circumstances, restrictions and rules and regulations.
Last year’s Ultima clearly demonstrated the importance of a festival as a physical, social platform for artists, audiences and the music industry. These are still strange times to be planning and running the biggest contemporary music festival in the Nordic region, and there are still many challenges to overcome.
Just like last year, in 2021 we are planning to host the most physical programme possible, consisting of both Norwegian and international projects.
These are made possible thanks to an enormous goodwill and flexibility on the part of our many collaborators, partners, venues, institutions and staff. We are grateful for their desire to work determinedly and practically towards finding the best solutions that will make this year’s Ultima as good as it can be.
The whole programme will be released in August, with various tidbits trickling out before that. So stay tuned. We look forward to having you with us!
