A maximalist sculptural invasion of Astrup Fearley Museum by an uncompromising sound artist.
Ignas Krunglevicius: POSSESSOR (WP, 2022)
Sound artist Ignas Krunglevičius (b. 1979, Lithuania) lives and works in Oslo. His installations, videos and sculpture often combine sound and text, exploring the connections between power, the economy, nature and existential realities generated by global technological development.
His new installation, POSSESSOR, is presented as two distinct sonic journeys. A long one with a subtle, schizophrenic assemblage of sound; and a shorter one, intense, psychotic and loud. POSSESSOR will be installed for six weeks in the same building as the Astrup Fearnley Collection. Steel structures resembling walls, solids and abstract objects will be displayed. Each of the sculptures will contain speakers making the structures radiate sound.
For the five-hour Ultima event, the artist will fine-tune the museum's architectural features to customise the sound, visual and spatial elements for a multi-dimensional, environmental experience. As the audience moves through the interior, the rooms themselves will become speakers, producing an intense noise felt throughout the ears and body.
The audience can come and go anytime during these five hours.
