Troll-elgen I Live Maria Roggen I Ingfrid Breie Nyhus
On December 1st, Cineteca Milano will host a special screening of the Norwegian silent film Toll-elgen (1927), directed by Walter Fyrst. Organized in collaboration with Ultima as part of the year-round Ultima Extra program, the event will feature vocalist Live Maria Roggen performing live to the film. Her performance will include material from (un)Romantic, a project created by Roggen and pianist Ingfrid Breie Nyhus, which was showcased at this year's Ultima Festival.
Troll-elgen follows the wizard elk Rauten, a human in animal guise. It begins in Ré Valley, a long, flat expanse bordered by forests so dark they seem to retain the blackness of night. At the valley's bottom, a sluggish river winds carefully through stretches of light-red sand, flowing northwards—a rare thing in Norway.
The event belongs to the series Norwegian Cinema – A Tribute to Edvard Munch and Contemporary Norwegian Cinema, which runs at Cinema Arlecchino until January 26, 2025. The project is supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Italy and is connected to the exhibition Munch – The Inner Scream at Palazzo Reale in Milan.
