This eco-themed networking event brings together Norwegian and international music and cultural organisations to explore practical measures for creating long-term sustainable solutions for the environmental challenge. The event will feature inspiring presentations with concrete examples.
Curators behind the sound art exhibition Particular Universal, Monica Holmen (Nitja) and Bjørnar Habbestad (nyMusikk), will discuss how art initiatives can contribute to revitalising spaces and communities, as well as the general interest for abandoned or forlorn places. The exhibition by Norwegian and Portuguese artists is shown at Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art during Ultima. It explores questions of identity, memory and landscape through site-specific sonic investigations in Magerøya and Castro Marim.
Anne Beate Hovind, project manager for Losæter, talks about the establishment of the cultural institution without walls, located in Bjørvika. Developed by the artist group Futurefarmers, Losæter houses fields of ancient grains, vegetable beds, a food forest, herb beds, compost, and a public bakehouse. Knowledge about organic food production is combined with art and culture, and people of different cultural backgrounds meet through cultivation, cooking, and shared meals.
Lunch is followed by a practical workshop where we will work in groups on cases from the participants' own experiences, exploring how to build on existing ecosystemsand engage in meaningful dialogues with their inhabitants and users.
The event is free and takes place in English. Registration is required.
