Born in Iran, Mohammad Reza Mortazavi has spent most of his life in Berlin and is one of the world’s leading percussionists using traditional Iranian instruments. He brings his own unique inventiveness and experimentation to his playing as well as opening up meditative space in his compositions and improvisations.
Exclusively for Ultima he will lead a workshop for people of all ages, background and skill levels, in which he invites you to experience making and listening to music in a variety of ways. The aim is to find a common pulse in which everyone can find themselves. One may try out styles and techniques, while the focus remains on listening to each other.
The workshop is open to 15 participants. You can bring any percussion instrument which can be played with the hands, such as bongoes, daf, tonbak or frame drum, but it is not required (you can also play your body!).
This is an introduction to his concert taking place om 23/9 as part of To be in the margins is to be part of the whole.
Practical info: The workshop will be held in English. To join, sign up for free here.
