Norway’s longest-running contemporary music ensemble celebrates its anniversary!
Oslo Sinfonietta marks 40 years with a full-day celebration at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter – the very place where the ensemble performed its first concerts in the 1980s.
Founded in 1986 by composer Asbjørn Schaathun, the ensemble is currently under the artistic direction of composer and conductor Christian Eggen. Over four decades, Oslo Sinfonietta has been a pioneer and driving force for new music in Norway and internationally – and an important bridge between established artists, emerging voices, and audiences.
In this Ultima Extra concert, which is a part of the initiative Ultima + Henie Onstad: Listening to the Legacy, Oslo Sinfonietta looks both back and forward. The programme brings together key works from the ensemble’s history alongside new commissions.
The day features music by Åse Hedstrøm, John Persen, and Asbjørn Schaathun – composers who have helped shape Norway’s contemporary scene – as well as works by Simon Løffler and Rebecca Saunders, two distinctive voices on the international stage. New commissions by Mariam Gviniashvili and Jonas Skaarud will also be presented.
If you’re an ultiMATE member, you receive free admission to the concert. Food is not included and must be purchased separately. Not a member yet?
Full programme released in May – stay tuned!
