In recent years, Øystein Wyller Odden has created a series of church organ compositions that deal with electrical noise and how it manifests itself in sacred spaces. Wyller Odden continues these investigations in his solo exhibition Hauge kirke.
The exhibition is based on the history of the building that today houses Atelier Nord and several artists’ studios. Around the turn of the last century, the building was an important religious gathering place for workers and other worshipppers in the Grünerløkka are of Oslo. Wyller Odden will create a site-specific audiovisual composition that examines the sonic encounter between the sacred past of the building and the ‘profane’ audio presence of electricity.
At a concert on Monday 16 September, NyNorsk Messingkvintett activates the installation space with a composition by Jan Martin Smørdal and Wyller Odden. The music draws on elements of hymns and church music and evokes glimpses of the building's history as a site of powerful religious experiences.
NB: The exhibition is also open outside the festival period, from 06.09.24 – 13.10.24. Check Atelier Nord's homepage for more information.
