Emanuel Vigeland Museum

The Emanuel Vigeland Museum in Slemdal is a mausoleum built by the artist himself in 1926. The dark, barrel-vaulted room is covered in frescoes depicting human life. Vigeland later chose to make the building his final resting place. Opened to the public in 1959, the museum is considered one of Oslo’s best-kept secrets. Its remarkable acoustics also make it a unique concert venue.

Bus number 46 to Grimelundsveien. 5 minutes on foot.

• Accessibility: The museum is not designed for wheelchair users, but the stairs outside the museum are low, and with some assistance, it is usually manageable to get inside. The door to the mausoleum itself is narrow — 62 cm wide, 152 cm high, and 50 cm deep. Some wheelchairs are therefore too wide to enter. Inside the mausoleum, there is a large, flat floor without high thresholds or steps.
