Techno and spirituality collide as we explore rave culture through cinema and our bodies!

David Letellier, aka Kangding Ray, is new to film scoring but already internationally recognised, with several nominations and the Cannes Award for Best Original Score for Sirāt.

Directed by Óliver Laxe, Sirāt follows a father searching for his missing daughter in southern Morocco. Together with his son, he seeks out desert raves while a geopolitical conflict simmers in the background. The atmosphere shifts between euphoria and unease. The music — raw, bass-driven techno and analogue machines — does more than accompany the story; it shapes the journey, which gradually turns inward.

I was immediately interested, since it meant much more than just creating techno. There is also this cinematic, more ambient and spiritual side to it. I have always straddled between these two worlds, says Ray on composing the music.

Screening and talk

Following Sirāt Special pt. I at Symra Cinema, the programme now continues at Vega Scene. After the screening, Kangding Ray joins the conversation to reflect on his work: the meeting between techno and film, and the search for an expression that holds both raw energy and vulnerability.

The discussion will also explore the film’s relationship to rave culture. Shot at a real rave in collaboration with local participants, the film raises questions of authenticity, representation, and what rave can mean today — beyond clichés.

The talk is moderated by journalist and DJ Martin Bjørnersen.

Concert with film composer

After the screening and talk, the evening continues at Trekanten with a solo concert by Kangding Ray, followed by a club night. From cinema to concert to dancefloor, the programme invites you to experience the music as narrative, reflection, and bodily experience.
